Arsenal supporters took to the skies once more this afternoon as a plane trailing an anti-Arsene Wenger banner appeared over the Gunners' away game at Stoke.

The plane, bearing the slogan "Wenger – Out Means Out" was spotted over the bet365 Stadium soon after kick-off in the crucial match, which Arsenal need to win to retain a significant hope of qualifying for the Champions League.

A group of supporters insist that a top four finish is now longer enough for Wenger, and have spent several months campaigning for the Arsenal board to withdraw the contract believed to be on offer to the Frenchman.

Their protests have included flying a plane over The Hawthorns during Arsenal’s 3-1 defeat at West Brom in March, though on that occasion their activities were disrupted by a rival aircraft demanding respect for Wenger.

Supporters have also arranged protest marches ahead of several home games, though these have been more sparcely populated in recent weeks, as part of their bid to unseat the Arsenal manager.

Standard Sport understands that further protests are planned before the season is out, though Wenger has previously insisted that, while he will take their views on board when he decides whether to extend his near-21 year stay in North London, fan feelings would not be the decisive factor.
