Granit Xhaka: Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta hopeful over early injury return for midfielder

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is hoping Granit Xhaka could return earlier than expected from the knee injury he sustained in September.

The midfielder suffered medial knee ligament damage during Arsenal’s north London derby win over Tottenham and has not played since.

Xhaka, however, has been working hard on his recovery and is making very good progress.

Originally it had been feared that the Switzerland international would not be back until the New Year, but Arsenal are now hoping he could return before the end of December if his recovery continues to progress well.

“Hopefully he will be a little bit sooner than expected, he is training and pushing himself and all the staff so hard like he always does,” Arteta said.

“He is in a good place, he is evolving well and hopefully we can have him a little bit earlier. It is still a bit early to decide.”
