Arsenal in talks with Chelsea to sign Demba Ba on loan

Arsene Wenger eyes deadline day deal for Senegalese forward

Arsenal have opened negotiations with Chelsea over a loan deal for striker Demba Ba.

Ba is no longer wanted at Stamford Bridge after Jose Mourinho bought Samuel Eto’o from Anzhi Makhachkala last week.

The 28-year-old, who has scored just two League goals since joining Chelsea from Newcastle for £7.5m in January, is now behind Eto’o, Fernando Torres and Romelu Lukaku in the pecking order.

Chelsea are prepared to let him leave permanently for £10m or £3m on loan and Arsenal are pursuing the latter.

Mourinho may be reluctant to sell to one of Chelsea’s top-four rivals. Roma and Rubin Kazan are also reportedly interested.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is keen to add a forward before tonight’s transfer deadline with Lukas Podolski ruled out for around three months with a hamstring injury.

Olivier Giroud has scored four goals in five games this season but French youngster Yaya Sanogo is the only other striking option with Nicklas Bendtner on his way out of Emirates Stadium.
