Arsenal loanee Eddie Nketiah scores Leeds United winner vs Brentford... but where is Tottenham’s Jack Clarke?

Eddie Nketiah is making a big impact at Leeds United as the Arsenal loanee scored a late winner on Wednesday night against Brentford.

Nketiah impressed during pre-season for Arsenal, but the arrival of Nicolas Pepe meant chances in a stacked front line would have been hard to come by this season.

The 20-year-old forward is on loan with Leeds this season and got off the mark with a goal in the 3-0 EFL Cup win over Salford City last week - and was at it again in his first Championship appearance of the campaign.

With Marcelo Bielsa's side struggling to find a breakthrough against Brentford at Elland Road, Nketiah came in the 77th minute. That change reaped dividends as the Arsenal loanee struck four minutes later, finding space in the six-yard box to tuck home a low cross into an unguarded net.

Chants of "Eddie, Eddie" rang around Elland Road as Nketiah celebrated, and no doubt Unai Emery and Arsenal fans will also be pleased after another promising performance from the striker.

It is a different story for another north London loanee at Leeds though, with Tottenham's Jack Clarke missing out on the squad to face Brentford altogether.

Spurs signed Clarke from Leeds this summer before immediately loaning the 18-year-old back to the Championship club for the 2019-20 season.

However, Clarke has only featured for Leeds in their EFL Cup win over Salford City, and has been an unused substitute twice as well as being left out of the squad for the last two games.

EFL rules stipulate that clubs are only allowed to name five loan players in a matchday squad, and Clarke appears to be the fall guy of late.

Leeds currently have Clarke(Spurs), Nketiah (Arsenal), Ben White (Brighton), Helder Costa (Wolves), Ilian Meslier (FC Lorient) and Jack Harrison (Manchester City) on their books as loanees.

With White and Harrison starting against Brentford and Meslier, Nketiah and Helder Costa on the bench, there was no room for Clarke - a situation which will not exactly impress Tottenham considering the winger was loaned back to Leeds with a view to playing regular football this season.
