Arsene Wenger has dismissed the possibility of Arsenal signing attacking reinforcements because he is convinced he could not find anyone better than Danny Welbeck.

The England international is approaching a return from the knee injury that has kept him out of contention since the end of last season.

Welbeck’s absence has left Wenger limited to just Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott at the pinnacle of his attack, though the former has enjoyed one of his most impressive seasons at Arsenal, scoring 18 goals in 30 appearances in all competitions.

And Wenger believes that the addition of 25-year-old Welbeck to the squad next month is worth more than any player he could find in the transfer market.

Asked whether he would look to sign any further players after Mohamed Elneny’s arrival he said: “I would prefer to have the players back from injuries.

“Welbeck is two to three weeks away and I am confident I will not find a better player than Welbeck on the market.”

Wenger also hopes to have Alexis Sanchez back in his first-team squad for the trip to Stoke on Sunday but warned that he would not be able to make a decision on his fitness until after a training session on Saturday.
