'I was nowhere near him' - no fears for Arsenal's Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain over Victor Moses FA Cup Final red card

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain insists he never feared giving away a FA Cup Final penalty for Arsenal as Chelsea wing-back Victor Moses was sent off for simulation at Wembley.

Moses was one of Chelsea's most impressive players during their Premier League title-winning campaign, but proved a villain at Wembley as he was dismissed for diving in Arsenal's penalty area.

With Arsenal 1-0 up, Moses was shown a second yellow card by referee Anthony Taylor after a 68th-minute tumble in an attempt to win a penalty for Chelsea, with the Blues going on to lose 2-1 despite equalising through Diego Costa.

Oxlade-Chamberlain was the closest player to Moses as the Nigerian hit the Wembley turf, but the England international - playing at left wing-back for the Final amid Arsenal's defensive crisis - said he never truly feared conceding a spot-kick.

"I didn't fear the worst, not at all," Oxlade-Chamberlain said following the Final.

"I think obviously when he went inside there was a moment when I sort of went to go for the ball, and then I thought he might just be a little bit ahead of me so I decided to pull out and not go for it.

"So as soon as Moses went down I was fully confident that I was nowhere near him and that the referee should have seen that so my heart didn't really go in my mouth.

"I didn't realise he was on a yellow so when that happened [the sending off] that was more of a surprise for me.

"But I knew I didn't go anywhere near him and obviously it helped us to victory in the end."
