Arsenal player ratings vs Everton: Leno drops clanger as Mari and Chambers cement places in drab affair

Arsenal slipped to a disappointing defeat as a Bernd Leno own goal handed Everton all three points.

Here’s how Mikel Arteta’s side rated at the Emirates...

Bernd Leno 3

Had a nightmare for the Everton goal as he somehow turned Richarlison’s cross into his own net. A night to forget for the German.

Calum Chambers 6

A solid enough performance and should start against Villarreal next week. Looks the best right-back in the squad right now.

Rob Holding 6

A fairly solid game from the centre-back, who looks much better when he is playing alongside Pablo Mari and not Gabriel.

Pablo Mari 7

Probably Arsenal’s best player during a miserable performance. Looks calm and composed at the back. Should start against Villarreal.

Granit Xhaka 5

Has been good at left-back since filling in there, but struggled tonight. Richarlison skipped past him far too easily for the Everton goal.

Thomas Partey 5

The Ghanaian can do much better than this and he knows it. Passing still looks a bit and needs to up his game next week.

Dani Ceballos 6

Had a fairly solid game all things told. Won a penalty for his side, but VAR intervened and deemed Pepe was offside in the build-up.

Bukayo Saka 6

Looked the most likely to make something happen for Arsenal, as is often the case. Ended the game at right-back.

Emile Smith Rowe 5

A couple of nice touches and passes, but was largely shackled by Everton’s midfield. Could lose the No10 spot now Martin Odegaard is fit.

Nicolas Pepe 5

A few nice moments where he beat Seamus Coleman and whipped in a dangerous ball, but was fairly quiet tonight.

Eddie Nketiah 5

As always, he worked his socks off and pressed very well. The youngster was feeding off scraps, though, and was starved of chances.

Substitutes

Martin Odegaard (Pepe 74’) 5

Came on to try and win the game, but couldn’t make the difference.

Gabriel Martinelli (Nketiah 74’) 5

A quiet cameo from the Brazilian, who was set on upfront.

Willian (Chambers 82’) N/A

Unused: Ryan, Gabriel, Bellerin, Soares, Elneny, Soares, Nelson
