Arsenal player ratings vs Leicester: Jorginho delivers again for Gunners as Leandro Trossard impresses

Arsenal’s January signings were key in a narrow win at the King Power

Arsenal extended their lead at the top of the Premier League to five points by beating Leicester.

The Gunners dominated large parts of this match but only won by a solitary goal thanks to Gabriel Martinelli’s strike shortly after half-time.

The Brazilian found the net after linking up well with Leandro Trossard, who was picked to play upfront over Eddie Nketiah.

Arsenal’s win moved them five points clear of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League. City could close the gap later on Saturday as they travelled to Bournemouth.

Aaron Ramsdale 6

Didn’t really have much to do all game as Arsenal dominated possession and controlled the match. An easy afternoon’s work for the England goalkeeper.

Ben White 7

Has been battling Takehiro Tomiyasu for his place and will be happy with his display. Denied Trossard a goal with a foul on Leicester goalkeeper Danny Ward.

William Saliba 7

The Frenchman has been off form in recent weeks but this was much better from him. Used his pace well to stop Leicester hitting Arsenal on the counter.

Gabriel 8

Made a bright start as he defended well to keep Tete out and cleared a dangerous cross with his head. Was a rock at the back. Should’ve scored from an Odegaard free-kick.

Oleksandr Zinchenko 7

Captain for the day and he put in a decent performance. Appears to be developing a good relationship with Jorginho and the pair controlled the midfield.

Martin Odegaard 7

Had a solid first-half but he went up a gear after the break. Found pockets of space in front of the defence and caused Leicester some problems.

Jorginho 8 | Star player

Some of his passing during the first-half was excellent and he helped Arsenal control the game. Has stepped up well in the absence of Thomas Partey.

Granit Xhaka 7

A performance where the Swiss midfielder got through a load of dirty work. Won fouls high up the pitch for his team and put in a shift defensively too.

Bukayo Saka 6

Was uncharacteristically wasteful in the first-half and his end product was lacking. Still carried a threat, though, and had a good penalty shout waved away.

Leandro Trossard 8

Will be gutted that his goal was ruled out as it was an excellent strike from outside the box. Had a good game operating as a false nine and setup Martinelli’s goal.

Gabriel Martinelli 8

He was a bit wasteful in the first-half and he squandered some good attacking positions. Made up for it by scoring a well-taken goal just after the break.

On for the final 20 minutes and didn’t have much impact. Pressed well and worked hard.

Thomas Partey (Odegaard 84’) N/A

Takehiro Tomiyasu (Zinchenko 90’) N/A

Subs not used: Turner, Holding, Kiwior, Tierney, Vieira, Smith Rowe.
