Mesut Ozil may have been given the international break off by Germany, but that hasn't stopped the Arsenal star from modelling the World Cup holders' latest kit.

Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan and Bayern Munich defender Mats Hummels joined Ozil in helping to launch the new jersey for Die Nationalmannschaft, with adidas going back a few decades for inspiration.

As if Joachim Low's side needed any more inspiration to defend their 2014 title, the jersey is based on the away shirt of the DFB's World Cup-winning side of 1990.

Ozil took to Twitter to announce the new look, writing: "A new chapter for the @dfb_team begins with this shirt. #RoadToRussia #DieMannschaft #FirstNeverFollows".

Gundogan was on hand to launch the kit in Dusseldorg, with Low's men set to wear strip to be worn for the first time on 11 November as Germany face San Marino in their 2018 World Cup qualifier.

Adidas describe the new chest design as having become "iconic in street and skateboarding culture", and Hummels seems to be a fan of the new design despite being more of a traditionalist when it comes to kits.

The Bayern star said: “I am a fan of our more traditional kits, but the new variant is even cooler and more dynamic."

There is good news for Arsenal fans regarding Ozil's international break, with Low ceding to Arsene Wenger’s wishes to leave the playmaker out.

The 28-year-old will play no part in the San Marino qualifier or a friendly with Italy and will instead be given time to recuperate after a draining start to the season that has seen him play 16 games for club and country.

"Players in international top league do not have the winter break as in the Bundesliga," Low said.

"So it is good, in some cases, to give players, who are regularly playing for us and the club, a break."
