Arsenal frontman Olivier Giroud is looking to emulate his Chelsea rival Diego Costa’s killer instinct.
The Frenchman told L’Equipe that club coaches had been instructing him to tone down his emotions when he misses a goal-scoring opportunity.
"When I do this [putting his head in his hands] after a missed chance, the coaches get a bit annoyed. They want me to have a ‘killer’ attitude,” Giroud said.
Giroud, whose Arsenal side host Monaco in the Champions League last 16 tonight, has had a fine season so far, scoring 11 goals in his 20 appearances this season, including five in eight since returning from suspension. However the 28-year-old is still looking for ways to improve his game, telling the French newspaper:
"Diego Costa shows no emotion. I am more emotional. I have therefore learned to control my emotions. I try to be less demonstrative."
In spite of the praise that Costa, 17 goals in 26 games, and Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero, 23 in 27, have been receiving the Gunners’ striker is confident he belongs in the elite category of Premier League strikers.
Giroud said: "I don't have an inferiority complex. I don't have their names but, when you look at the stats, I am only just behind them."
