New Gunner: Colombia’s David Ospina

Arsenal have agreed a fee of around £3million with Nice for goalkeeper David Ospina.

The 25-year-old impressed for Colombia at the World Cup and will challenge Wojciech Szczesny for the No1 shirt at the Emirates.

Ospina only has 12 months left on his contract at Nice and Arsenal have reached an agreement with the French club to make him their third summer signing, after the arrivals of winger Alexis Sanchez and defender Mathieu Debuchy.

Arsene Wenger has been keen to add another goalkeeper after the departure of Lukasz Fabianski, who joined Swansea after rejecting a new contract.

Ospina helped Colombia to the World Cup quarter-finals and was one of the stand-out goalkeepers of the tournament.

His arrival will provide stiff competition for Szczesny, who played well last season after a rough ride the previous term.

Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas is interested in joining Arsenal, according to reports in Spain, but it remains to be seen whether Wenger will pursue the 33-year-old following the signing of Ospina.

Casillas reportedly wants to leave the Bernabeu after losing his No1 place to Diego Lopez and, with Real set to sign Costa Rica goalkeeper Keylor Navas, his future is uncertain.

Meanwhile, Wenger will speak to Jack Wilshere this week after the midfielder was photographed smoking. The Arsenal boss criticised Wilshere after he was pictured smoking last season and the 22-year-old promised it would not happen again.

Wenger says he is not “deeply concerned” by the latest incident but the Arsenal manager will speak to Wilshere before the start of an important season for the England international.

“I know what you can make of pictures — I have to speak to him really to see what happens before I come out publicly,” said Wenger. “I am not deeply concerned by it. I just want to know what happened and before I know what happened, I do not want to talk too much about it.

“He is at an age where you want him to move forward. He has the potential. I believe for him, the most important thing now is to have a good preparation and focus on getting really fit.

“Jack is a great player, he has a football brain and he is ambitious. I am sure that if he is injury free, he will have a great season.”
