Arsenal transfer news and rumours: Fresh N’Golo Kante update, Lisandro Martinez strike & £6m Alex Grimaldo bid

Jonathan Gorrie11 July 2022

One of the busier Premier League clubs this summer, Arsenal are still very much active in the transfer market.

Mikel Arteta has already revealed the club remain on the hunt for more reinforcement amid suggestions they could yet move for Leicester City midfielder, Youri Tielemans.

Given their interest in Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez too, it seems reasonable to assume Arteta is largely happy with his attacking options and will now focus on other areas of the squad.

With that in mind, here’s a look at the latest Arsenal transfer news and rumours.

With Jesus signed and former Manchester City teammate Raheem Sterling close to joining Chelsea, the idea of the Premier League’s biggest clubs selling to each other does not sound as ridiculous as it may have done a few years ago.

Still, it seems unlikely N’Golo Kante will end up at the Emirates Stadium.

Touted as a shock target for Arsenal, Fabrizio Romano has revealed there are no talks between the two clubs for the Frenchman.

Lisandro Martinez

While Manchester United are also keen on a move for Martinez, nothing has yet been agreed.

For his part, the Argentina international is said (via The Mirror) to be prepared to go on strike at Ajax in order to force through a Premier League move.

Alex Grimaldo

Another defender tipped for a move to north London is Benfica’s Spanish left-back, Alex Grimaldo.

Presumably, the 26-year-old has been identified as a potential alternative to Martinez as Arteta looks for a more reliable back-up to Kieran Tierney after a difficult season for Nuno Tavares.

According to Portuguese outlet A Bola, the club have submitted a bid of around £6m for the former Barcelona youngster.
