Arsenal youngster Emile Smith Rowe has joined Bundesliga side Red Bull Leipzig on loan until the end of the season having completed a transfer deadline day medical.

The 18-year-old has caught the eye of Gunners manager Unai Emery this season, making six first team appearances, five of which have been starts, and has been named in three Premier League matchday squads.

Arsenal will be hoping the promising midfielder follows in the footsteps of Reiss Nelson, who is shining during a spell with Bundesliga side Hoffenheim this season.

Leipzig were keen to add an option to buy in the deal to take Smith Rowe to Germany, however Arsenal rate the academy star too highly to risk losing such a prospect at the end of the season.

On the move, Emery said: “Emile is a promising young player. This move will get him valuable competitive action which is important as he continues his development.”

Leipzig, who sit fourth in the Bundesliga table, face Hannover 96 on Friday night, a game which may come too soon for the Arsenal loanee, who will have one eye on Wednesday's Cup meeting with Wolfsburg for his debut.
