Arsenal failed in an attempt to sign Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho, Arsene Wenger has revealed.

The young Englishman is making his name in Germany after growing frustrated with a lack of opportunities at Manchester City, leaving in the summer of 2017.

Since then, Sancho has made his senior England debut and was again impressive, aged 18, despite Dortmund's loss to Tottenham this week.

Wenger has confirmed Arsenal were interested in signing Sancho before his switch to Dortmund, joining Tottenham, but missed out.

"It's an incredible story because the pressure on the young boy from an early age is very big," he told beIN Sports. "The pressure from all the clubs.

"I wanted to take him from Man City when he didn't get the games. I tried to lure him, because he's from London. I tried to get him to Arsenal."

He added: "They get a lot of money before they have played games. It doesn't improve [a player's] hunger.

"It's a test for these boys because they are rich before they play."
