David Luiz's Arsenal shirt number has been confirmed after the Brazilian defender made a sensational transfer deadline day move across London.

Arsenal beat the 5pm deadline to sign the Chelsea defender for £8million, with the 32-year-old signing a two-year contract.

The Brazilian instigated his move away from Stamford Bridge on Wednesday and the two clubs were able to agree a deal before the transfer window shut.

Luiz, who previously worked with boss Emery at Paris Saint-Germain, will wear the number 23 shirt for Arsenal.

The shirt was most recently worn by Danny Welbeck, with previous No.23s including Nicklas Bendtner, Andrey Arshavin, Sol Campbell, Nelson Vivas and Ray Parlour.

Emery said: "David has huge experience and I look forward to working with him again.

"He is a well-known player and adds to our defensive strength."
