Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez missed out to Bayern Munich’s Arturo Vidal as his wait to win the Chilean Footballer of the Year prize continues.

Despite claiming the Golden Ball award at this summer’s Copa America Centenario, where he inspired Chile to retain the title they had claimed for the first time in 2015, Sanchez was pipped to the award by Vidal, who won the German league and cup with Bayern Munich last season.

It continues Sanchez’s surprise wait to be crowned wait to claim the prize, which was last year won by Claudio Bravo.

Though Sanchez struggled to start 2016 with a bang after suffering a hamstring injury in November of last year the 28-year-old has been in electric form for Arsenal this season, scoring 14 goals and providing 12 assists for Arsene Wenger’s side.

No player has scored more opening goals than Sanchez’s five this season as the Chilean has swiftly adapted to his new role as the focal point of Arsenal’s attack.
