Arsene Wenger has dismissed suggestions his Arsenal side are the underdogs going into Saturday's north London derby.

Tottenham can pull seven points clear of Wenger's men with victory at Emirates Stadium just months after finishing above their rivals in the Premier League table for the first time in 22 years.

And when told by a reporter his side were the dominant force in north London for a "long period", Wenger interjected: "For 20 years!"

The Gunners finished 11 points behind Tottenham last term, finishing outside the top four by a single point.

“It was the first time in the history of the Premier League [to miss top four] with 75 points, so I still feel it was harsh on us.

“People forget we won the FA Cup in a very stylish way.”

It was their fourth defeat of the season after just 11 matches, while Tottenham have lost two in as many games.

And asked whether his side go into the derby as the unfancied team, Wenger added: "No, not at all.

"Tottenham is a good side but we have the quality to win this game and that's what we want to show."

The Gunners hope to welcome back both Danny Welbeck and Shkodran Mustafi, but will be without Olivier Giroud for the visit of Spurs.

The Frenchman said: “Giroud picked up an injury, I don’t think he will be available.,” Wenger said.

“It’s short term, we have to assess him on Monday.”
