Arsene Wenger dismisses Tony Adams criticism: 'I don't give too much importance to what he says'

Arsene Wenger on Friday dismissed criticism of his coaching skills from former Arsenal captain Tony Adams.

The former Gunners captain claimed Wenger “couldn’t coach his way out of a paper bag” and believes he was denied the chance of a place on his backroom staff because he was too outspoken against him.

"Actually in the original draft, I said he couldn't coach his way out of a paper bag. And though I modified that in the final article, it didn't go down well," he wrote in his autobiography.

"It all left me feeling that I would never get a chance in any capacity while Arsene was there.

"Much as I respected him for his long and successful tenure, my occasional willingness to pass comment on him and the team probably counted against me."

Adams is the latest ex-Arsenal player to criticise Wenger's methods, with the likes of Ian Wright, Thierry Henry and Robert Pires all speaking out against the Frenchman in recent months.

The Arsenal boss gave short shift to the comment, however, merely responding: “I do not give too much importance to what Tony Adams says. Honestly.”
