Arsene Wenger overtakes Sir Alex Ferguson to become FA Cup's joint most successful manager

Arsene Wenger has claimed his sixth FA Cup title and moves joint-first with legendary Aston Villa manager George Ramsey.

Wenger has now lifted the FA Cup more times than Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson, who won the trophy 5 times during his 26 years at Old Trafford.

Victory over Aston Villa over Aston Villa on Saturday also sees the Frenchman move ahead of legendary Blackburn Rovers manager Thomas Mitchell (five wins) and Sheffield United’s John Nicholson (four wins).

Wenger first tasted victory in the FA Cup with Arsenal’s 2-0 victory over Newcastle United, and triumph over Aston Villa sees the Gunners boss retain the Cup for the second time in his career.

Following successes in 2001-2, 2002-3, 2004-5 quickly followed, until Wenger ended Arsenal’s nine-year wait for trophy with last season’s victory over Hull City.

Victory at Wembley also sees Arsenal become the most successful club in FA Cup history after clinching their 12th title.

The Gunners overtake Manchester United, who have 11 titles to their name, and move four above North London rivals Tottenham.

Arsenal’s first FA Cup triumph came back in 1930, when Herbert Chapman’s side overcame Huddersfield Town 2-0 at Wembley Stadium.

In total, the Gunners have featured in 19 FA Cup Finals, finishing runners-up on seven occasions.
