Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed he will consider using Calum Chambers in place of the injured Francis Coquelin.

The Frenchman today confirmed Coquelin will be sidelined for at least two months after suffering a knee ligament injury in the defeat to West Brom on Saturday.

Wenger will be expected to turn to Mathieu Flamini and Mikel Arteta in the midfielder's absence, but did not rule out a January swoop to further his options and also cited Chambers as an unlikely candidate to step into the vacant defensive midfield slot.

The Arsenal boss used Chambers as a deep midfielder in the 2-0 defeat to Southampton earlier this year after last summer telling reporters he believed the former Saints man would eventually carve out a future in front of the defence.

"It is of course a disappointment to lose him [Coquelin] in the longer term but we have in the squad the players who can compensate. We have lost a player of quality for a while but we know that can happen," Wenger said.

"I will give myself time, we have players who play in this position like Mathieu Flamini and players who can play there like Calum Chambers.

"Sometimes this is a good opportunity for other players to turn up and do the job. I will do what is needed in January, knowing as well it is not an ideal transfer market."
