Ashley Cole faces new £200,000 Chelsea fine over revelations

In more trouble: under-fire Chelsea defender Ashley Cole must explain his actions to club officials
11 April 2012

Ashley Cole is facing another £200,000 fine from Chelsea after being summoned to a board hearing later in the week after more embarrassing revelations emerged about his private life.

Cole has further angered senior officials at Stamford Bridge following reports yesterday that he smuggled Ann Corbitt into the team hotel while on their pre-season tour in Seattle last July.

The situation has been compounded because Cole misled head of media Steve Atkins into thinking the story was untrue when a national newspaper looked into exposing the affair days later.

Atkins then advised Corbitt on how to handle the situation, unaware of the complete version of events.

Chelsea are taking a dim view of Cole's behaviour and want an explanation of his actions.

It is believed Cole has already been fined £200,000, two weeks' wages, for other embarrassing revelations that have come to light in the past few weeks.

All the players and staff were warned they had to be on their best behaviour following a meeting with chief executive Ron Gourlay last Wednesday.

He said there would be "dire consequences" for anyone who damages the club's image and while it is unlikely Cole will be sacked or put on the transfer list, Chelsea will look into handing him a second £200,000 fine.

A club spokesman said: "This is a private matter for Ashley Cole but anything that is alleged to have happened within Chelsea Football Club time is an internal matter and will be dealt with internally."

But there was some good news for manager Carlo Ancelotti. Five of his injured stars are expected to be fit for Champions League action against Inter Milan on Wednesday.

Ancelotti had feared he would have to take on the Serie A champions with a depleted squad after Yury Zhirkov and Ricardo Carvalho joined Frank Lampard (virus), Alex (knee), Juliano Belletti (knee) and long-term victims Ashley Cole, Jose Bosingwa and Michael Essien on the injured list.

But Ancelotti said: "Carvalho had a little problem but should be ready. I also hope to have Lampard, Alex, Zhirkov and Belletti. It is important a lot of them recover for the Inter game."

The San Siro tie will see the Italian face arch rival and former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho in a competitive match for the first time since he move to Stamford Bridge last summer.

The duo had a frosty relationship when Ancelotti was in charge of AC Milan and both have confirmed they are not "friends".

But Ancelotti is adamant he doesn't hold a grudge and will look to shake Mourinho's hand at the final whistle.

He said: "There is a possibility to shake his hand, for sure. I don't have a problem with him. My only problem is to play against Inter.

"In this game there are no surprises. He knows Chelsea very well, I know Inter very well."
