Aston Villa could revive deal for Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor, says Tim Sherwood

Familiar face: Sherwood could yet be reunited with Adebayor

Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood has refused to rule out the possibility of reviving a deal to sign Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor.

The 31-year-old discussed a loan move with Villa earlier this summer, and was given a tour of the club's training ground, but negotiations have stalled.

Sherwood worked with the Togolese forward during his brief spell in charge of Spurs and has suggested that they may yet be reunited at Villa Park if a resolution can be found.

“If it can be revived and we think it’s necessary two parties have got to agree on it. At the moment there’s no agreement and he’s a Tottenham player.

"It's unfair for me to talk about. He's a Tottenham player. I can't speculate on whether he might go or where he might end up. He's still their player and that's it.

"He was here and we spoke, but he's a Tottenham player. We had discussions and he's still a Tottenham player so obviously something went wrong," Sherwood admitted.

Villa sold top scorer Christian Benteke to Liverpool in late July but have moved quickly to bolster their front line with the signings of Jordan Ayew and Rudy Gestede from Lorient and Blackburn Rovers respectively.

Sherwood also has the talent of Gabriel Agbonlahor and Libor Kozak to call upon, but has confirmed that he is not adverse to the idea of improving his options further, should an opportunity to do so arise.

“I am really happy with the four [strikers] we have here at the moment but if there is something that becomes available and it’s better than what we’ve got then you look to improve. It would have to be some good quality of striker to be better than what we have," Sherwood said.
