Aston Villa v Arsenal team news: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain among substitutes at Villa Park

Striker Olivier Giroud returned after illness as Arsenal made five changes for their Barclays Premier League trip to Aston Villa.

Wojciech Szczesny, Mesut Ozil, Per Mertesacker and Mathieu Flamini also came back in after missing FA Cup action while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain - out since the first day of the season - was on the bench. Mikel Arteta was ruled out injured.

Villa also made five changes as skipper Ron Vlaar returned along with Brad Guzan, Nathan Baker, Karim El Ahmadi and Gabriel Agbonlahor.

Aston Villa: Guzan, Clark, Vlaar, Baker, Lowton, El Ahmadi, Delph, Westwood, Luna, Agbonlahor, Benteke. Subs: Bacuna, Helenius, Weimann, Albrighton, Steer, Sylla, Tonev.

Arsenal: Szczesny, Sagna, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Monreal, Wilshere, Flamini, Gnabry, Ozil, Cazorla, Giroud. Subs: Rosicky, Podolski, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Fabianski, Jenkinson, Gibbs, Park.
