Pep Guardiola believes the Premier League title race will taken all manner of twists and turns between now and the end of the season in a warning to those competing for the top prize in English football.

Manchester City dropped more points away from home on Saturday by drawing with a struggling Aston Villa side, missing the chance to move ahead of Arsenal at the top of the table.

After a difficult start for Liverpool, many had predicted City to extend their lead – already at five points – over the team to have most closely rivalled them over the last few years.

Still, Leon Bailey’s late goal cancelled out Erling Haaland’s 10th goal of the season, with Guardiola stressing there was always likely to be twists in events at the top of the table.

Speaking after the game, Guardiola said: “I am a positive person in general.

"We have dropped four points so far and now we have the Champions League.

"Every game away is difficult in the Premier League - Newcastle, today - I know how difficult it is and the opponents are really good.

"The titles we won in the past were difficult and this will be no exception.

"The people talk, but I know this is just the beginning. A lot of things are going to happen this season."
