Chelsea's Champions League opponents Atletico Madrid are putting the finishing touches to their jaw-dropping new Wanda Metropolitano as they prepare for their first game at the ground this month, having left the Vicente Calderon last season.

The club released a time-lapse of the work on the new state of the art pitch, which began in December, coming to an end this week as they prepare for their first home game of the season.

Diego Simone’s side, who have been forced to play their opening games away so far this season, host Malaga on September 16, with Antonio Conte’s Chelsea being the first Champions League visitors later in month, making the trip to Madrid on September 27 for their first away fixture of the Group Stages.

The Blues will be the first visitors from outside of La Liga to the new 68,000-seater stadium, before they travel to Roma’s Stadio Olimpico and then finally the Baku Olympic Stadium to face Qarabag in Azerbaijan.
