Bacary Sagna claims Arsenal’s victory at West Brom could be “massive” in their pursuit of a top-four finish.

The Gunners won 2-1 at The Hawthorns on Saturday, thanks to a brace from Tomas Rosicky, to move within two points of fourth-placed Tottenham.

Arsenal have a game in hand — against Everton a week tomorrow — and have reduced the gap on Spurs and Chelsea after winning six of their last seven League matches.

Arsene Wenger’s side had to weather a second-half storm against the Baggies following Per Mertesacker’s red card and Sagna said: “It was really hard. We were 2-0 up but we put ourselves in trouble losing stupid balls and they managed to score one goal.

“We knew it was going to be difficult in their stadium with their fans but we managed to keep going, fight to the end and take the three points.

“It is really massive [to win]. We have to take it game by game but we know we have to take three points every time. We are on a good run and we want to keep it going because we still have two months to go until the end of the season and we want to qualify for the Champions League.

“We don’t want to look at other teams. We just focus on our team. We want to finish in the top four at the end of the season and that’s it. We don’t want to think about it [the table].”

Arsenal beat Albion without injured duo Jack Wilshere and Theo Walcott, both of whom are thought to be on course for a return to the squad against Norwich on Saturday after resuming light training.

The club continue to monitor Wilshere closely and will not risk him this weekend if there is any sign of the inflammation in his ankle that prompted his omission from the first team.

He has not played for Arsenal since the north London derby defeat by Tottenham on March 3.

Walcott is thought to be progressing well in his recovery from a groin strain sustained during training while on England duty last month.
