Barcelona midfielder Riqui Puig is expected to leave the Catalan club on loan after being told he is not part of coach Ronald Koeman's plans.

Puig was left out of the Barcelona squad for tonight's Gamper Trophy game against Elche at Camp Nou and according to RAC 1, has been instructed to find a new team for this season.

The 20-year-old was one of the few bright lights in Barca's disappointing 2019-20 campaign, when he was given opportunities in the starting XI under Quique Setien.

However, Koeman has opted to play with a 4-2-3-1 formation and that leaves the youngster with no natural position in the team.

And after featuring as a substitute in the 3-1 friendly win over Girona on Wednesday night, Puig now seems unlikely to feature again under the Dutch coach.

Koeman, who is expected to be in charge for only a season because of presidential elections at Barca next year, will address the matter after tonight's game against Elche.
