Brentford confirmed striker Ivan Toney has tested positive for Covid-19.

The club released the news prior to Sunday’s Premier League meeting away at Leeds United.

Toney, who has scored four goals during an impressive start to his maiden campaign at the top level, will now have to self-isolate.

It goes without saying that the 25-year-old’s absence will be a further blow to manager Thomas Frank, who has already lost goalkeeper David Raya for an extended period of time.

On Friday, his team welcome Watford in what could be a huge match towards the bottom of the Premier League and heading in without his star striker will be of huge concern, particularly given no one else in his squad have scored more than two goals this season.

After that, his team play Manchester United on Sunday 14 December, though it’s unclear as to whether or not the former Newcastle United striker will be able to play by then.
