Brentford will demand £15million for forward Ollie Watkins, who they signed for just £1.8m only a year ago.

Watkins arrived at Griffin Park from League Two club Exeter ahead of the 2017-18 campaign and made such a good impression that Brentford believe his value has skyrocketed.

The 22-year-old scored 11 goals in 48 appearances in all competitions last season and started to attract attention from top-flight clubs, including Crystal Palace and Bournemouth.

Watkins played on the wing last season but Brentford plan to use him through the middle this season.

He has three years left on his contract at Griffin Park and Brentford have an option to extend that deal by a further year.

Watkins has enjoyed a rapid rise since he played on loan at Weston-super-Mare in the Southern Premier League in 2015.

He soon broke into the Exeter first-team after that time in non-league football and in 2017 he was named the EFL young player of the year, an award given to Dele Alli and Lewis Cook before him and won by Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon last season.
