Brentford boss Thomas Frank backs star striker Ivan Toney to thrive in Premier League

Brentford boss Thomas Frank has backed Ivan Toney to be a hit in the Premier League.

Toney has only played two top-flight games in his career so far, both for Newcastle during the 2015/16 season, but he took the Championship by storm last year.

The striker scored 31 goals during Brentford’s promotion-winning campaign, which was a record for the Championship, and Frank has backed the 25-year-old to continue his fine form in the Premier League.

“I think he has got all the abilities to score goals in the Premier League as well,” said Frank ahead of Friday night’s curtain-raiser against Arsenal.

“He’s got a top mentality, big belief in himself, and I think as a player, but especially as an offensive player, I think you need to have that massive confidence.

“Last year I thought he was the best penalty shooter in the world and Championship, so I still think he is the best penalty taker in the world now he’s in the Premier League.”
