Brentford goalkeeper David Raya has ended speculation over his future by signing a new long-term contract at the club.

Raya was one of the keys to Brentford’s success last season, winning the Championship’s golden glove award as the Bees reached the Playoff final, where they lost to Fulham.

That form saw him attract interest from Arsenal this summer, but Brentford were firm in their desire to keep the Spaniard and he has now put pen to paper on a deal which commits him to the club until 2024.

“We are very pleased that David has signed a new contract,” manager Thomas Frank said. “He showed last year that he was a very important player for us and, for me, he is one of the best keepers in the league.

“He fits our style of play; he is really brave with his high line and takes everything that goes in behind, as well as crosses. He made some big contributions in key moments last year and that’s something I want to see even more of going forward.”

Meanwhile, Everton and West Brom are considering moves for Brentford full-back Rico Henry ahead of next week’s transfer deadline.

The 23-year-old featured in every league and playoff fixture last season and though he was forced off with a hamstring problem in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Millwall, the injury is not serious and he could even feature against Preston this weekend.

Naturally, Henry has a desire to play in the Premier League but Brentford are reluctant to sell, having insisted all summer that only star forwards Ollie Watkins and Said Benrahma would be allowed to leave the club.

Watkins joined former Bees boss Dean Smith at Aston Villa in a £33million move while Benrahma remains at the club for now and scored twice on his first start of the season in Thursday night’s Carabao Cup win over Fulham.

Were Henry to leave, Brentford would likely be forced into the market themselves, with Dominic Thompson the only other recognised senior left-back at the club, while winger Tariqe Fosu was used as a makeshift right-back for the Fulham game, with Henrik Dalsgaard rested and Mads Roerslev injured.
