Brighton striker Glenn Murray believes it is "fantastic" Crystal Palace escaped relegation this season.

Sam Allardyce's side went into Sunday's clash with Hull under huge pressure but secured a 4-0 victory over the Tigers to retain their Premier League status.

Brighton's promotion to the top-flight, courtesy of a 93-point Championship haul, means the Seagulls will face their bitter south London rivals next season.

Murray spent a successful spell at Selhurst Park earlier in his career and has welcomed a chance for the two clubs to do battle at elite level.

"I think it's fantastic Palace stayed up," Murray told Sky Sports.

"It gives the fans the derby they want and I'm sure it will be two great fixtures next year."

Brighton have not played at the highest level of English football for 34 years while Palace are hopeful they can avoid another relegation scrap next term.

Allardyce is adamant he needs to invest in his squad to ensure the club progresses after flirting with a return to the second tier for the majority of the current campaign.
