Brilliant Burnley beat Fulham in FA Youth Cup quarter-final

Fulham got off to a dream start but were shattered by goals either side of half-time in their FA Youth Cup quarter-final 3-1 defeat by a brilliant Burnley outfit at Craven Cottage last night.

Fulham had pulled off a huge shock by going north to beat Manchester City in the last round and looked to be on their way to the semi-final when captain Ronnie Minkwitz fired them into a six minute lead from long range.

But the Whites, managed by Wales new senior coach Kit Symons, succumbed to a double from Cameron Howieson who levelled direct with an inswinging corner swirling over keeper Grant Smith four minutes before half-time and then headed in within 45 seconds of the second-half.

A spectacular solo from Shay McCartan left Fulham two goals down on 56 minutes and hard though they tried, there was no way back. That leaves Chelsea as sole Londoners left, needing to defeat holders Manchester United over two legs to reach the final. Burnley face their bitter local rivals Blackburn.
