Calum Chambers believes Arsenal have the quality and the confidence to target a second place finish in the Premier League this season.

Chambers, who impressed in his side’s 3-0 dismantling of West Ham United at the Emirates, said the atmosphere in the dressing room can help the Gunners in their quest to finish as runners-up for the first time in ten years.

“We’ve got to aim for as high as we can really. We’ve got to go into every game and try and get a win and see where that takes us,” he said.

“We’ve got a lot of confidence built up as well as momentum from good results in the League so we’ve just got to keep that momentum going and keep the confidence going and get the results we need.”

The win against West Ham was the Gunners’ fifth in a row and left them in third position, one point away from Manchester City, and four points above Manchester United.

And while their performance in the Premier League has been impressive, Chambers understands that their record in Europe must quickly improve.

Arsenal play Monaco in the second leg of their last-16 Champions League tie on Tuesday and have to overturn a 3-1 deficit from the first leg if they are to progress to the quarter-finals.

The English right-back added: “It’s going to be a tough game but we’ve got to go into it and give it out all. You’ve got to get goals obviously but you’ve also got to stay strong defensively and not concede.

“We need to show togetherness as a team. We’ve got to go into it all willing to fight and give 110 per cent to get the result there. If we could overturn the result it’d say a lot about us but if we put in a good performance and give it our all then you can’t ask much more than that.”
