West Ham’s reward for an impressive Carabao Cup win over Manchester United is a meeting with holders Manchester City in the fourth round.

Manuel Lanzini’s early goal at Old Trafford on Wednesday night was enough for David Moyes’ side to gain revenge for their late defeat against the same opposition in the Premier League on Sunday.

Now the Hammers face the unenviable task of trying to inflict City’s first defeat in this competition since October 2016, with Pep Guardiola and Co. looking for a record-breaking fifth consecutive triumph after bouncing back from an early scare to thrash third-tier Wycombe 6-1 on Tuesday.

Elsewhere, Arsenal will face Leeds in the last 16, with Mikel Arteta’s resurgent side having made it three successive victories against League One outfit AFC Wimbledon courtesy of goals from Alexandre Lacazette, Emile Smith Rowe and Eddie Nketiah. Leeds beat Championship Fulham on penalties, meanwhile.

Chelsea and Tottenham both overcame nervy shootouts against Aston Villa and Wolves respectively, with both London rivals now facing further all-Premier League affairs as Southampton head to Stamford Bridge after their own penalty win against Sheffield United and Spurs visit Burnley, who came from behind to beat Rochdale 4-1 thanks to four second-half goals from Jay Rodriguez.

Brentford put seven past the EFL’s bottom club Oldham and will now travel to Championship Stoke, while QPR host League One Sunderland after eliminating Everton on spot-kicks.

There is also a plum draw for Championship Preston, who take on Liverpool after brushing aside Cheltenham in round three.
