Manchester United will face Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup semi-finals with Southampton drawn against Newcastle.

Wednesday’s draw came after Forest came through a dramatic 4-3 penalty shootout win over Wolves, Joe Hodge seeing the decisive spot-kick saved by Dean Henderson after a 1-1 draw in 90 minutes.

The first leg is scheduled to take place at the City Ground on the week of January 23 before the Old Trafford return a week later.

United came through a tricky encounter with Charlton on Tuesday, Marcus Rashford scoring a late brace off the bench.

Southampton booked a tie with Nottingham Forest after shocking Manchester City 2-0 at St Mary’s.

First-half goals from Sekou Mara and Moussa Djenepo secured a huge boost for Nathan Jones amid Saints’ relegation battle, ending Pep Guardiola’s perfect record of 15-straight wins in domestic cup quarter-finals.

Newcastle, who beat Leicester 2-0 on Tuesday, will host the return leg at St James’ Park.
