Cardiff call for Crystal Palace match to be replayed after team leak row

Cardiff have called on the Premier League to order that their controversial 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace is replayed but their plea looks set to fail.

The Welsh club lodged an official complaint to the Premier League this week alleging that their team for the game was leaked following an approach by Palace director of football Iain Moody.

Cardiff claim Moody, who they sacked last year, contacted three members of their staff to find out their line-up and that his behaviour breached Premier League rules.

Further reports from the BBC today reveal details of a five-page letter sent by Cardiff’s lawyers to the League claiming Palace boss Tony Pulis knew of Moody’s attempts and that the result “should not be allowed to stand”.

Standard Sport understands it is very unlikely the match will be played again as there is no precedent for a result to be declared void.

The Premier League confirmed this week they were investigating but Palace have already denied the accusations.

After Cardiff’s complaints came to light, Moody admitted he had talked to people within the game about what their team might be, but insisted he had not made contact with anyone at the club.

He said: “That is incredibly, extraordinarily untrue. That is untrue, completely untrue. Absolutely not — not under any circumstances.”

Chairman Steve Parish explained that they had received information from an agent, with only nine of the 11 names received being correct.

He then hit back at Cardiff, saying: “It’s completely far-fetched to me. I can’t imagine it in a million years. I think it will be sour grapes really.”
