Cardiff to be the Dragons?

28 February 2013

Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan admitted today he will consider changing the name of the club to Cardiff Dragons if they win promotion to the Premier League.

The Malaysian businessman infuriated supporters in the summer by switching the club strip from blue to red — a lucky colour in Asia — and introducing a new crest.

Tan wants to do even more to appeal to the Asian market, even though he will upset fans.

Talking of a possible new name for the Championship leaders he said: “We will think about it when we know the final result of this season. Then we will think what’s the best way to brand it.”

Asked specifically about rumours regarding the Cardiff Dragons name, he told the BBC: “We haven’t discussed this. I’ve not really thought about this in detail. When we make a decision we’ll convey it to everyone.”
