Celtic’s thrilling ride makes up for derby loss

5 December 2012

Neil Lennon believes the Champions League has been a “great substitute” for the absence of Rangers from the Scottish Premier League this season.

The Ibrox club relaunched in Division Three after they went into liquidation in the summer, putting an end to Old Firm League derbies.

But Celtic’s European adventure, which has included a thrilling win over Barcelona, will continue after tonight if their result against Spartak Moscow at Parkhead tonight is better than Benfica’s at the Nou Camp.

Lennon said: “Getting through to the Champions League has been a great substitute. The players and supporters have really enjoyed it.”
