Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta has signed a new five-year contract with the club.

Azpilicueta has cemented the left-back berth at Stamford Bridge and played a big part in a strong start to the season for Jose Mourinho's men.

The 25-year-old arrived as a right-back but Jose Mourinho opted to play him on the left, where he has held off competition for a starting place from Ashley Cole and Filipe Luis.

Azpilicueta joined the Blues from Marseille in August 2012 and has made 95 appearances to date for the club, winning the Players' Player of the Year award last season.

The Spaniard, who scored the opener in Chelsea's Capital One Cup victory at Emirates Stadium last season, won the Europa League during his first season at Stamford Bridge.

He made his senior international debut for Spain against Qatar in February last year, and was part of this summer's World Cup squad.
