Cesc Fabregas rejects latest link with Barcelona

Staying connected: Arsenal skipper Cesc Fabregas in training today

Cesc Fabregas has dismissed new speculation linking him with a move back to Spain.

Barcelona striker Lionel Messi said yesterday the Arsenal captain would become the best midfielder in the world if he moved to the Nou Camp and club's president Joan Laporta is a huge admirer of the player who left Catalonia to join the Gunners as a 15-year-old.

Real Madrid also covet Fabregas but he is convinced he can fulfil his ambitions with Arsenal.

"The rumours don't worry me, they have been going on for years," said Fabregas, who hopes to help Arsenal into the second round of the Champions League against Standard Liege tomorrow.

"I don't want to think about it, and I don't think I should. I'm at a great club, we have a great team and I'm very happy here.

"We have a very long season in front of us and the last thing for me to do is to get
disconnected from what I have to do here. Arsenal pay me and I'm looking forward to having a great season. I can win things here."

Kieran Gibbs has recovered from his foot injury and should return to the starting XI against the Belgians.

Meanwhile, Stan Kroenke today bought 10 more shares in Arsenal. The American tycoon is now only 61 shares short of the point at which he would be obliged to make a formal bid for the club.
