BT Sport clearly didn't expect Tottenham to reach Champions League semi-finals

BT Sport inadvertently ruffled a few feathers among Tottenham supporters before Tuesday night's Champions League last-four first-leg clash against Ajax.

Spurs reached their first major European semi-final for 25 years - and their first in Europe's top competition in 57 years - after an epic tie against domestic rivals Manchester City, with Mauricio Pochettino's side eventually progressing on away goals after following a narrow 1-0 home win with a thrilling 4-3 away defeat that will certainly live long in the memory.

However, after a cursory glance at the BT Sport Football Twitter account on Tuesday morning, one could be forgiven for wondering for a split-second if Raheem Sterling's last-gasp goal at the Etihad Stadium - ruled out by VAR for offside - that would have sent City through in the most dramatic of circumstances may actually have been given after all.

That is because, as part of their artistic plug for both semi-final ties, BT included a drawing of the England star alongside Barcelona's Lionel Messi, Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk and Ajax's Camp Nou-bound midfield sensation Frenkie de Jong.

It is safe to say the error was quickly seized upon and not received particularly warmly by Spurs fans. The post stayed up for a few minutes before being deleted.
