Uefa Champions League top scorers: Latest goal standings for 2018-19 UCL season - Messi wins Golden Boot

Lionel Messi has been crowned as this season’s Champions League Golden Boot winner despite being denied the chance to lift the European Cup this year.

The Barcelona star, who has scored 110 Champions League goals in his career – second only to the all-time top scorer Cristiano Ronaldo on 126 – hit 12 goals this season, but the Blaugrana were stunned as Liverpool won 4-0 at Anfield to overturn a 3-0 first-leg loss in the semi-finals.

Second to Messi is Robert Lewandowski, who hit eight goals before Bayern Munich’s campaign was brought to an end by Liverpool at the last-16 stage.

Two of the competitions surprise stars, Ajax’s Dusan Tadic and Porto’s Moussa Marega, finished with six goals to their name, along with Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero and Juventus star Ronaldo.

The Portuguese legend has been the Champions League’s top scorer in seven different seasons, but finished on six goals after Juventus were dumped out of the quarter-finals by Ajax.

Neither player from either finalist - Tottenham or Liverpool - hit more than five goals this season. Lucas Moura, who scored a brilliant hat-trick to secure a miraculous semi-final victory over Ajax, is level with Harry Kane on five - and Mohamed Salah's penalty in the final took him to five as well.

With Salah's Liverpool team-mates Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino on four goals, Messi seems certain to secure this season’s Golden Boot – but the biggest prize will elude him.
