It was a night to forget for Manchester United and French newspaper L'Equipe showed no mercy.

Angel Di Maria returned to Old Trafford to terrorise his former club, notching two assists as a weakened Paris Saint-Germain side inflicted a first defeat on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Notoriously tough with their ratings, L'Equipe felt no need for patriotic allegiance as Paul Pogba - who was sent off - was one of six United players to score 3/10.

Jesse Lingard, Nemanja Matic, Ander Herrera, Victor Lindelof and substitute Alexis Sanchez were all also in the firing line.

Ashley Young was given United's best score with a 6/10. Solskjaer handed a 4/10.

There were only two 8/10s across the field, awarded to Di Maria and defender Thiago Silva.

United's players must now heed Solskjaer's words after full-time."Don’t feel sorry for yourself," he said. “This is something to learn from. It was a level up from what we’re used to.

"It was the first time Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford will play a proper Champions League game at Old Trafford. Learn from that. Move forward.

"Whoever feels sorry for themselves will not play probably."
