FA board member Heather Rabbatts believes managers should be punished if they try to influence their medical team when treating injured players.

Rabbats, who previously criticised Chelsea and Jose Mourinho for demoting Eva Carneiro in the aftermath of the row which led to her departure from the club, also said she hoped to see the medic back in football soon.

Speaking at the Leaders in Sport Business Summit 2015, Rabbatts said: “It may well be that we need to think about more effective sanctions if protocols are breached. Perhaps a disciplinary offence if there are interferences with the referee and the medical staff.

“We have to look within the FA at the processes and we will do so in the forthcoming weeks. The issue of safeguarding players is clearly vitally important, and there are a number of concerns shared by Premier League doctors and the association of medical practitioners.

“There are a number of things to look at and reflect how we can do better, and I sincerely hope we see Eva Carneiro back in football soon.”

Mourinho was told last week he would face no action over allegations he made discriminatory comments towards Carneiro.

The medic released a statement saying she had not been called on to make a statement during the FA’s investigation.

The Leaders in Sport Business Summit was held at Stamford Bridge to gather the industry's most influential people to share insights and spark discussions that will help shape the future of sport.
