Charlton are targeting a loan move for Arsenal striker Stephy Mavididi in the final hours of the January transfer window.

The 18-year-old is the subject of interest from numerous clubs in League 1 and Europe but a move to Charlton could suit Mavididi, with both the club and manager Karl Robinson having a proven track record for getting the best out of young players.

Nicky Ajose’s reported departure from Charlton could open a space for Mavididi in the side and Robinson has been clear that he wants to recruit an attacker before the close of the transfer window.

There is a long-standing pathway between the Valley and the Emirates, with Francis Coquelin, Emmanuel Frimpong and Yaya Sanogo all having spent time in south London during recent years.

Mavididi is well regarded at the Emirates and has a track record of goals across age groups.

The top scorer for Arsenal’s Under-21s last season with 17 goals in 30 games he has continued to find the net with Steve Gatting’s U23 squad, scoring eight in 17 across Premier League 2 and the Uefa Youth League.

An England Under-19 youth international, Mavididi was also included among the substitutes in for two of Arsenal’s EFL Cup games this season.

Mavididi is a graduate of east London club Rippleway United – as were Arsenal first-teamers Chuba Akpom and Alex Iwobi – and has proven himself adept at leading the line on his own.
