Charlton’s FA Cup match with Oxford postponed again after pitch inspection

Charlton’s FA Cup tie with Oxford has been postponed for a second time because of the poor state of the pitch at The Valley

The third-round fixture should have been played last Saturday but was called off last week because of a waterlogged playing surface. It was then scheduled to take place this Wednesday but will now be played on January 14.

The decision follows discussions between Charlton and the Football Association after a pitch inspection today. The FA were keen for the tie to go ahead this week but heavy rain has forced it to be rearranged.

The poor state of the pitch has been attributed to a partial collapse of its drainage system, which cannot be rectified until the end of the season. A dome has been installed to help waterlogged areas dry and the club are hopeful Saturday’s home game with Barnsley will go ahead.
