Charlton have signed centre-back Patrick Bauer from Maritimo on a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee, just days after they sold Joe Gomez to Liverpool for £3.5million.
The 22-year-old former Germany youth international was a regular last season for the side that finished ninth in Portugal’s first division.
“Since the season finished we’ve been working hard to bring Patrick to Charlton,” said manager Guy Luzon.
“I’m really pleased that we’ve been able to complete the move. At 6ft 4in, he will bring us a lot of height and power to our defence and is a perfect fit for the Championship.”
Charlton chief executive Katrien Meire said: “After reluctantly losing one of our young academy talents, the fans expect us to invest back into the team. We made bringing Patrick to The Valley one of our priorities as soon as the window opened. I expect him to be the first of many new faces this summer.”
