Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has received a one-match stadium suspension and fined £40,000 after his behaviour during half-time of his side’s defeat to West Ham.

Mourinho watched the second half of the match from the stand’s after receiving a red card in a bad-tempered 2-1 defeat to Slaven Bilic’s side.

The manager had been given a suspended stadium ban for comments made in the wake of a defeat to Southampton and this has now be activated by the FA. He will miss Saturday’s visit to Stoke City, who sit one place above Chelsea in the current table.

He had been reported to have received his marching orders at the Boleyn Ground after entering referee Jonathan Moss’ dressing room during half-time.

A statement on the FA website confirmed: “The Chelsea manager admitted an FA charge of misconduct regarding his language and/or behaviour towards the match officials in or around the dressing room area during half-time of the game against West Ham United on 24 October 2015.

“With regard to Chelsea coach Silvino Louro, who denied an FA misconduct charge in relation to the same game, The FA, having considered further representation, withdrew the formal charge of improper conduct but reminded him of his responsibilities.”

It caps off an unpleasant day for Mourinho, who is set to be the subject of an individual legal claim from former Chelsea doctor Eva Carneiro after he labelled her “impulsive and naïve” in August.

Mourinho’s future at Stamford Bridge has been under increasing doubt after a start to the season that has seen the champions lose six of their first 11 matches.
