Nemanja Matic has said Chelsea's disappointment at failing to secure victory at Liverpool on Tuesday was short-lived because of results elsewhere.

The Blues would have made it 16 wins out of their last 17 Premier League matches if Diego Costa had scored from the penalty spot with 14 minutes remaining at Anfield last night.

But Matic has revealed that the players were lifted afterwards by the news of Arsenal’s 2-1 home defeat to Watford.

When asked if he was delighted on hearing the scoreline from Emirates Stadium, he said: “Of course. To be honest I didn’t expect that they would lose points at home. But this is the Premier League, everything is possible and you have to concentrate in every game.

“It’s good for us when they lose points because with 15 games to go, we are now into the second part of the season and every point is very important.

“If we win on Saturday we will be 12 points clear of them and that’s good.

“But we don’t look to the League table, we are just focused on what the coach wants from us.

“We work very hard every day to see what his point is, to be physically ready and then in May we will see where we are.”
